What Is the Workout Recap?
Every time you finish a workout on Gymkee, you land on a full-screen recap that celebrates what you accomplished. Confetti rains down, your phone gives you a satisfying haptic buzz, and all your workout stats appear with smooth animations.
This is your moment. The recap shows you exactly what you did, puts your effort into perspective with fun comparisons, and lets you share a beautiful card on social media.
The Flow After Finishing a Workout
Here is what happens step by step after you tap the confirm button at the end of your workout:
Feedback screen appears, where you can rate your exercises and leave feedback
You tap the confirm button to submit your workout
Gymkee calculates your calories, queries your heart rate (if a wearable is connected), and sends your results
Photo prompt screen appears, inviting you to add a progress photo
Recap screen appears with confetti, stats, fun comparisons, and sharing options
The Photo Prompt
Right after submitting your workout, Gymkee asks if you want to add a photo to your recap. You have three options:
Take a photo opens your front-facing camera so you can snap a post-workout selfie
Choose from gallery lets you pick an existing photo from your phone
Skip takes you straight to the recap without a photo
If you add a photo, it becomes the background of your recap card. Your stats are displayed on top of it with a dark gradient so everything stays readable. If you skip, the recap uses a warm dark gradient background instead.
Your photo is saved locally on your device and will appear again if you revisit the recap later.
Understanding Your Stats
The recap screen shows your workout stats line by line, each with an emoji on the left. Stats appear with a staggered animation, revealing one after another. Here is what each line means:
Calories Burned
The fire emoji line shows your estimated calorie burn. If you have a wearable connected (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, etc.), Gymkee uses real-time data for a more accurate estimate. Otherwise, it uses a MET-based calculation based on your body profile, exercise types, intensity, and duration.
This value is always an estimate, which is why it shows a tilde (~) before the number.
Hero Stat (Volume, Reps, or Duration)
Gymkee analyzes your workout type and picks the most meaningful stat to highlight:
Weight-based workouts highlight your total volume (weight multiplied by reps, across all sets). Displayed in kg or lbs depending on your settings.
Bodyweight workouts (no weights used) highlight your total reps.
Time-based workouts (planks, stretching, cardio holds) highlight your total duration.
Total Reps
If the hero stat is volume (not reps), Gymkee also shows your total rep count on a separate line with a flexed bicep emoji.
Exercises and Sets
A clipboard emoji line shows how many exercises you completed and how many sets you did in total. For example: "6 exercises, 24 sets".
Muscle Groups Worked
A target emoji line lists the top 3 muscle groups you trained, based on the primary muscles of each exercise in the workout. For example: "Chest, Shoulders, Triceps".
Average Heart Rate
If Gymkee received heart rate data from your wearable during the workout, a heart emoji line shows your average BPM.
The Header
At the top of the recap, you see:
A small label that reads "Workout"
A large "Done!" title
The date of your workout (e.g., "Tue, 17 Jun 2025")
The time window (e.g., "5:54 PM to 6:47 PM, 53 min")
Your location, if Gymkee has location permission (e.g., "Paris, FR")
The location is captured automatically when you finish the workout. If you have not granted location permission, this line does not appear. You can grant it in your phone's settings at any time.
Fun Comparisons
One of the most enjoyable parts of the recap: Gymkee translates your stats into real-world equivalents to make your effort tangible.
Depending on your hero stat, you might see things like:
Volume comparisons (based on how much weight you lifted in total):
"You lifted a whole car!" (1,500 kg)
"You lifted 3 gorillas!" (540 kg)
"You lifted a grand piano!" (300 kg)
"You lifted 5 bowling balls!" (35 kg)
Rep comparisons (based on total reps):
"That's 200 high fives!"
"Like climbing 8 floors of stairs!"
"That's a 150-clap standing ovation!"
Duration comparisons (based on workout length):
"Like watching a whole movie!" (120 min)
"Like listening to 12 songs!" (42 min)
"Like 3 boxing rounds!" (9 min)
The comparison that appears is picked based on your actual numbers. The same workout always shows the same comparison, so it feels consistent, not random.
Comparison With Your Previous Workout
If you have done the same workout before (same program day or same workout name), Gymkee fetches your previous performance and shows a green "up" line when you improved:
+120 kg vs last time (you lifted more total volume)
+8 reps vs last time (you did more total reps)
+2m 30s vs last time (you trained longer, for time-based workouts)
This comparison only appears when there is a positive improvement. If your numbers were the same or lower, Gymkee does not show the comparison line.
Coach Attribution
At the bottom of the recap, Gymkee shows attribution for your workout:
Workout name (e.g., "Workout: Upper Body A")
Program name (e.g., "Program: 12 Week Strength")
Coach name (e.g., "By Coach Sarah" or "By Coach Sarah (@sarahfitcoach)")
If your coach has set up their social media handle on Gymkee, their Instagram (or primary social platform) handle appears next to their name. If the coach uses a brand name, that appears instead of their personal name.
This attribution also appears on the share card, giving your coach visibility every time you share.
Sharing Your Recap
At the bottom of the recap screen, you see two buttons:
Share opens your phone's native share sheet with a beautiful 1080x1920 pixel card, perfect for Instagram Stories, WhatsApp, or any other platform
Back to home dismisses the recap and takes you back to the Gymkee home screen
What the Share Card Looks Like
The share card is a vertical image designed for social media stories. It contains:
Your photo as the background (if you added one), with a dark gradient overlay
All your workout stats (same layout as the on-screen recap)
Your coach attribution at the bottom
The Gymkee logo at the very bottom
The card is rendered at 1080x1920 pixels, which is the standard resolution for Instagram Stories and similar formats.
Tag Reminder
After you share, Gymkee shows a friendly reminder to tag your coach and the Gymkee account when you post. The message includes your coach's social handle (if available) and the Gymkee account (@gymkeecoach for English, @gymkeecoachfr for French).
Viewing Past Recaps
You can revisit the recap of any completed workout. Here is how:
Open any completed workout from your training program or workout history
Tap the menu (three dots) in the top right
Tap Show recap
This opens the recap screen in view mode. You see the same stats, comparisons, and attribution. If you took a photo when you originally completed the workout, it reappears as the background. You can also share the card again from this view.
The only difference: confetti does not play in view mode (that celebration is for the live moment).
Tips
Take a photo right after your workout for the most authentic post-workout look. The front camera opens by default, perfect for a quick selfie.
Share your recap card to Instagram Stories and tag your coach. It is the best way to show appreciation and help them grow their brand.
Check your volume over time by viewing past recaps. Seeing "+200 kg vs last time" is incredibly motivating.
If your calories seem off, make sure your profile (height, weight, age, sex) is up to date, or connect a wearable for better accuracy.
Common Mistakes
Closing the app before the recap loads. If you force-close Gymkee right after submitting the workout, your data is still saved, but you miss the recap experience. You can always view it later from the workout detail screen.
Thinking calorie numbers are exact. The calorie display is always an estimate (that is why it shows "~"). Even with a wearable, calorie counts are approximations. Use them as relative benchmarks, not absolute values.
Not granting location permission. The location line on your recap (and share card) only appears if Gymkee has location access. If you want your city to show on shared cards, enable location in your phone settings.
Troubleshooting
Problem: The recap screen does not appear after finishing my workout
Why it happens: This can occur if your internet connection drops right as you submit the workout. Gymkee needs to send your workout data before navigating to the recap.
How to fix it: Check your connection and open the completed workout from your program. Tap the menu and select "Show recap" to view it.
Problem: My calories show as 0 or do not appear
Why it happens: Calorie estimation requires body profile data (weight, height, age). If your profile is incomplete, Gymkee cannot calculate calories.
How to fix it: Go to your profile settings in Gymkee and make sure your weight, height, date of birth, and sex are filled in. Future workouts will show calorie estimates.
Problem: The share button does not work
Why it happens: On some devices, the share feature requires the native view capture module, which may not be available on older app versions.
How to fix it: Update Gymkee to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
Problem: My photo does not appear when I view a past recap
Why it happens: The photo is stored locally on your device. If you reinstalled Gymkee or cleared app data, the local photo cache was erased.
How to fix it: The stats and all other recap data are still intact. Only the background photo is lost. Future workouts will save photos correctly.
Problem: The comparison with my previous workout does not appear
Why it happens: Comparisons only show when Gymkee finds a matching previous workout (same program day or same workout name) AND your current performance improved. If this is the first time doing this workout, or if your numbers were the same or lower, no comparison appears.
How to fix it: This is normal behavior. Keep training and you will see the green improvement line when you beat your previous numbers.
FAQ
Can I see past recaps?
Yes. Open any completed workout, tap the menu (three dots), and select "Show recap". Your stats, fun comparisons, coach attribution, and photo (if saved) all appear.
Can my coach see my recap?
Your coach sees your completed workout data (sets, reps, weights, duration) in their dashboard. They do not see the recap screen itself, but they see all the underlying stats. If you share the card on social media and tag them, they see that too.
Can I skip the photo?
Yes. Tap "Skip" on the photo prompt screen. You still get the full recap with all your stats, comparisons, and sharing options. The background will be a dark gradient instead of your photo.
Can I change my photo after taking it?
No. Once you take or choose a photo, it becomes the recap background. If you want a different photo, you can take a new one next workout. The photo prompt only appears right after completing the workout.
Does the recap work offline?
The workout submission requires an internet connection. Once submitted, the recap screen displays your stats from the workout data that was just sent. If you lose connection mid-submission, Gymkee will retry when you are back online.
What happens if I share but do not post?
Nothing. The share button opens your phone's share sheet and generates the card image. If you cancel the share or close the sheet, nothing is posted. You can tap "Share" again anytime.
Is the location on the share card my exact address?
No. The location shows your city and country code (e.g., "Paris, FR"). It does not display your street address or precise coordinates.
Why does the confetti only play once?
Confetti plays when you first complete the workout to celebrate the accomplishment. When viewing a past recap, the confetti does not replay because the moment has already been celebrated.
